Only Got 20 Dollars in my Pocket

Faux fur jacket: Target - Shirt: Calvin Klein - Black jeggings: American Eagle Outfitters - Purse: Express
Necklace: Pangaea

The best outfits are the ones that make you feel most like yourself. This jacket defines that feeling for me. I've always been drawn to really unique, out-there pieces...the crazier the better.

I wasn't always brave enough to wear what I wanted to wear. I went through stages in my life where I would dress with my head and not with my heart. There are still times I'll stand in front of the mirror, two seconds before leaving the house and think, Do I really want to do this? and chicken out. But I've found that when I just go for it and throw caution to the wind, I feel more comfortable in my skin. Much more so than when I try to dress casual. Because we all know I'm a total failure at that.

You'd think such a "soul mate" jacket would be my own discovery, but alas, I cannot take credit for this great find. This one was all mom. We were browsing the clearance section at Target when she whipped it off the rack and handed it to me. "What's this?" I asked, looking down at it skeptically.
"For you," she said, nudging it into the small mound that had begun to collect in my arms, "to try on." Reluctantly, I took it.

Later in the dressing room, I slowly slinked out from behind the door. "Umm...I think I like it...no, I really like it." She smiled.
"Thought it looked like something you would wear." I don't always like to admit it, but sometimes mom does know best ;)

Ring: a gift
This whole outfit is pretty much thanks to my mom. The ring is my birthstone (garnet) which I've had since I was born. It was passed down to me when my fingers were big enough to wear it (and when I'd reached an age where I was responsible enough not to lose it!)

Boots: JS Jessica Simpson (DSW)

The boots are a discovery I made while frantically rummaging through her closet this morning. I felt like the jacket was too big and fluffy to wear with flats. A piece like that needs to come across as chic, not like the abominable snowman.

Necklace: Pangaea

I can take credit for finding this necklace, but it is my mom's. It's probably not proper etiquette to steal it to wear since Chloe and I gave it to her for Christmas...but it went so perfectly with my outfit! I needed something to give my look a modern edge :P

Earrings: from a booth at an art fair (Centennial Park, Nashville)

Annnndddd....not my earrings. Mom got them from an art fair this summer in Centennial Park. But rest assured, I returned all of the items I borrowed back to her, safe and sound.

Think I'm nuts for rocking the Yeti? Sure, I might look back and wonder what I was thinking. It's not like I haven't ever done that before. But I encourage you to wear what makes you feel most comfortable now. Live it up. Be bold. Go out on a limb. You never know...you just might find yourself ;)

So...have any of you ever had something you were dying to wear but were to chicken to wear it? Leave a comment below! I love hearing what you guys have to say.
